I can finally reveal the exciting news about my upcoming project ‘Dancing in Circles’, a narrative-dance-inspired short film set in North Wales.
"Inspired by real life events, DANCING IN CIRCLES is a relationship study over three decades that organically unfolds in a non-linear structure and reveals our protagonist’s past. We fluidly transition between the different decades, giving stage to an emotional arch and heartfelt journey, all the way from the passion of youth to the wisdom of old age. Dance, drama, art and music are combined in an innovative way to breathe new life into Welsh folklore.
Dance and physical performance are a big part of this film and let us experience force, passion and galar (Welsh: loss). By building a shared language for the characters over the different time periods with gestures that repeat and develop we can directly compare the stages of the relationship, realising that it is a living, breathing structure that grows and changes with the people involved."
The film is kindly funded by the Cultural Department of the County Tirol and the City of Innsbruck. I’m co-producing this film with long-time collaborator Iddon Jones (Loose Ends iddonjones.com) who will also star in the film as TOMOS. We’re hoping to shoot late June/early July in Anglesey. Casting calls will be announced here as soon as we’ve got dates.
Hoping to let you know about our other collaborators on the film soon! We’ll keep you posted with news as and when they come in. Don’t forget to follow us on Twitter for instant updates and reminders about new blog entries:
