Successful first day on our recce in Anglesey – and our waterproofs have only been teased. Anything better than today though and it’ll be magical.
We’re holding the first audition for the roles of Hannah, Aled and Dafydd on the 29th of May in Cardiff. Get in touch if you’re interested in coming to the casting.
HANNAH – 22 years (1970) & 35 years (1983)
Hannah is English. She is confident and outgoing, but also impulsive and volatile, always interested in new things, exploring the world almost with child-like enthusiasm.
Hannah also likes to be flirty and the center of attention, but never in a provocative way. The first ten years of her relationship to Aled she was very loyal and would never have done anything to hurt him, but when the dynamics changed and he became a successful and well respected photographer, while she still didn’t know what to do in life, she started to look for recognition and attention from other people. In her 20s Hannah would’ve liked Aled to be more confident and daring, but when he becomes exactly that in their 30s Hannah’s role in their relationship changes and she can’t handle it.
Hannah will have to perform a few physical movement choreographies, therefore (dance) experience in that style would be helpful.
Hannah has a very distinct laugh that lets us recognize her in different ages.
ALED – 23 years (1970) & 36 years (1983)
Aled is from South Wales and speaks with the local accent, but he does not speak Welsh.
23-year-old Aled hasn’t fully found himself yet and is therefore a little more quiet and thoughtful than his girlfriend Hannah. He absolutely adores her and is fascinated by her confidence and joy in life. He is torn between taking over his dad’s business in Cardiff or following his passion for photography and travelling the world.
Once he finally stepped out of his comfort zone and pursued photography he was surprised how easy it came to him. By the age of 36 he feels at home on photo shoots and radiates confidence. Deep down he is still the same grounded character though; he has not let success get to his head.
Aled does not necessarily need dance experience.
DAFYDD – 23 years (1970) & 36 years (1983)
Dafydd is from North Wales and speaks with the local accent, as well as fluent Welsh.
Dafydd is a sculptor and has a carefree nature about him that Hannah is fascinated by. He doesn’t worry about his looks too much, which unbeknownst to him makes him even more attractive to the women. He is lucky to be in a position where he can follow his passion and not worry about menial jobs to make ends meet. He always has many friends around him but his relationships tend to be short, especially in his 30s, as women don’t like that he doesn’t have much structure in his life.
As a 36-year-old he still pursues his art but has had to learn how to run a gallery as well in order to support his income. Life is now not only about him anymore but being there for other artists as well.
Dafydd should have good dance and physical performance experience.
Let me introduce you to our fantastic post-production team!
Editor Christin Gottscheber will tackle the rushes as soon as we’re back in Austria, slotting in nicely after a busy year of shorts and music videos and before heading off to Berlin for a few months to get her hands on edit work there.
It feels like yesterday since I first worked with composer Alex Harwood on Loose Ends but in fact it’s been three years, during which she scored over 50 films! Not just a collaborator but friend, I look forward to getting stuck in with her again on this project. And she never ceases to impress, like when I mention a piece by Bach and she just starts playing it on the piano from memory!
